Just finished a few new ones. Will be giving some away on trip to DFW next week.
Yes, 2 years ago on this day we started our full time rv adventure. It’s been a great ride so far, meeting a lot of people in a lot of different places. Currently in the Deep Piney Woods of East Texas working as Gate Guards. This has allowed us to bank some $$ and enjoy this area. We really like it and are scheduled to be here for several more months into the new year. No regrets and hope for many more posts like this one!
We had a catered BBQ lunch a few days ago. One of the workers where we work is paying for it and accepting donations. All money collected will go to a co-worker whose child will be having some serious surgery soon. This is just one example of the really wonderful people here that make this a great place to work! This lunch raised $2,000. with only about 50 workers. Best lunch we had in a while, it felt good after eating it!
Getting Old….You know I drove to the store a few days ago and after parking I realized I had forgot my glasses. Panic mode kicked in!! Now I don’t need them to drive but anything else like reading I NEED them. Searched thru all the truck…even though I own about 25 pair scattered everywhere (except the truck) no extra pair anywhere. I finally found a sunglass/reader pair which even though it was a very cloudy day, stuck them on my head and there I went.
It got me thinking….
Am I the only one who sees someone and thinks wow they look old, and then realize they are the same age as me or younger.
I depend on my vast collection of reading glasses. (btw, I have several pair in the truck now.) Having a pair with you are just like putting your pants on, they are a part of your wardrobe. Thank goodness it’s the glasses I forget and not the pants!!
My bottles of antacid are pretty important also. Especially after that greasy plate of enchiladas.
The most important criteria on clothes are comfort. No white tube socks with sandals….Yet
I don’t mind asking for a senior discount, the funny thing I usually don’t have to ask.
Well off to the chiropractor to see if I can rid of this pain in my shoulder….now where are my glasses.
A few days ago I observed something I have never seen before. It is a rainbow effect in the clouds, I think it is called cloud iridescence. This happened just after we had a rain shower and before the sunset. Of course I had my camera, so I grabbed a few shots before it disappeared. See for yourself.
Sun has been shining bright for the last two days, so things are starting to dry out. I had moved the RV to higher ground until this rain moved out, so today was moving day back to our original spot. It was still wet and slick in a spot or two but this East Texas sand dries out pretty fast.
We made it, feels great to see the sun shining and back in our nice spot.
We work off of East Fm 1988, these two pics are on the West side. Hopefully the high water doesn’t cross over to our side! Pictures courtesy of Polk County Today
We had to go to the work site this morning to change generators. We have 2 and one being a spare. The main one would only last another day or two before fuel was gone so we went to switch them out so we would have power when we returned to work. The Hwy 59 road looked like a truck stop with all the trucks pulled off the side of the road. Since they couldn’t go South they had parked waiting for the road to reopen.
It rained all night with a lot of wind until about 9am this morning and finally slowed down with only a few showers. So we went about 36 hours straight with it raining pretty hard. My guess, since we have no rain gauge, is about 10-12 inches of rain. We lost power this morning for about 2-3 hours so we used the generator a while. Power is back but still out in a few places around Goodrich and Livingston. Just have to wait and see where this storm is going next. So far, not bad for us.
Just closed Hwy 59 South at FM 1988 because of high water on Hwy 59. Lots more rain is coming, this could get interesting.
Rain started about 8pm and it hasn’t stopped or even slowed down. Listening to Houston scanner had numerous high water rescues happening. We are just getting steady rain, but Houston has had heavy downpours for several hours. Radar shows no let up anytime soon. This will be the start of flooding and huge totals of rain. Several tornadoes have caused damage around Houston. It’s gonna be a super wet day.
